In this workshop, each student gets a 5"x5" square work area to create a design using glass frit (various sized chips of glass color), stringers of glass (long, thin strands of glass color), as well as other materials to add to their creation. When your design is complete, the glass artists leading the workshop will use ladles to draw glass from the furnace at 2250 degrees Fahrenheit. The liquid glass will then be poured over your creation. While the glass is cooling, you'll have time to manipulate the surface with metal hand tools. You'll be able to make impressions, add texture and generally just play with hot glass in a way that most people never think of. Once your tile has cooled a bit, it will be taken out of the mold and put into an oven to gradually come down to room temperature.
